- Explanation: This section explains how to select the driver type for a driver within the DOTDriverFiles app. Selecting the correct driver type is important for ensuring that the driver’s records and qualifications are accurately maintained.
- How to Select Driver Type:
- Log in to the DOTDriverFiles app.
- From the Dashboard, click on “Drivers” in the left navigation bar.
- Select the driver whose driver type you want to update.
- From the driver dashboard, click on the pencil icon in the top right corner where it says “Driver Type is not selected yet”.
- Click “Change Photo” and upload an appropriate driver photo if desired.
- Select one of the following options:
- Owner/Operator: An independent contract driver who owns (or leases) and drives their own power unit.
- Co-Driver: An independent contractor that drives with a specific owner/operator at all times but cannot take a load by themselves.
- Contract Driver: Paid on a 1099 and operates a power unit owned by a Fleet Owner who is under contract to the motor carrier named above. The Fleet Owner must not be the motor carrier named above.
- Fleet Driver: Paid on a W2 and operates a power unit owned by a Fleet Owner who is under contract to the motor carrier named above. The Fleet Owner must not be the motor carrier named above. Fleet Drivers paid on a W2 are not eligible for Occupational Accident Insurance.
- Click “Submit” to update the driver type.
